Greece & the Greek Islands

There are few countries in the world where you are constantly walking on history. In Greece, you can go either on the continent or on any island you will discover that, in the place you are, either a god or a famous man was born and created on that soil. If is no legend associated with a particular place for sure you will find that it was somehow related with one of the famous Greek tragedies and this give you the impression that somehow you have been there, like you read a several millenniums old newspaper. But more than monuments, history and legends, Greece is the epitome for vacation, especially in the islands, who are conquered by hoards of sun starved Northern Europeans who are literally swarming most of the islands: Norwegian in Kos, Germans in Samos, Dutch in Rhodes, etc.

The Greek Islands are divided in 5 major groups. The North Eastern Islands with Samotraki, Lesvos, Chios and Samos. The Dodecanese, in the South Eastern Part of the Egeean Sea with Patmos, Kos and Rhodes. The Cyclades in the central part of the sea with Santorini, Naxos, Paros and Mikonos. The Sporades around the continent and the Adriatic Sea Island with Corfu and Zakynthos.

Come and see with us a travel video about some of these islands. Starting from Athens Acropolis where the Parthenon is the symbol of the magnificent Greek civilization, the cradle of the western civilization, we hoped a ferry overnight to Chios, the island famous for mastic production, birth place for Homer, to see the picturesque villages of Pyrgi and Mesta and the 15th century monastery of Nea Moni, to the secluded island of Inouss, the only place where we could say that we were the only tourist on any island, to Samos, the place where, for sure, Pythagoras and, probabily, goddess Herra was born, where you could see magnificent work done during the reign of tyrant Polycrate, to Patmos , small but very picturesque island where St. John the Evangelist was exiled by the Roman emperor Domitian and where, living in a cave, he wrote the Book of the Apocalypse, to Bodrum in Turkey, the legendary city of Halicarnasse, which hosted one of the seven wonders of the world, to the splendid island of Rhodes, with its beautiful cities filled with impressive castles. Our intention to continue in the Cyclades was thwarted by the lack of connections so we flew back to Athens and we drove from there to Meteora, where mysterious monasteries are, like, hanging in the sky and to Metsovo, deep in the Pind Mountains, a place where a population, speaking a Romanian dialect, lives and preserves ancestral traditions.

Come with us and watch this travel video and you'll never forget these places!
