Kailash travel video
This travel video is a 92 minutes presentation of a trip taken in Western Tibet. Our intention was to show an interesting and pretty intense itinerary, which we were able to cover in about 15 days. We wanted to shoot a travelog, a long form documentary about this particular trip making it different from the regular documentaries you may see on TV. We covered a lot of ground in the narration associated with the film: from history to legends, architecture and traditions, customs and religions we tried as much as possible to approach most of the issues you encounter in such a trip.
To get into Tibet you need a permit that you may get in Chengdu, China. But this is only the beginning, the Chinese borrowing from the old Tibetan government the custom of trying to keep foreigners away so if you want to travel inside Tibet you need lots of other permits. So, to get to Kailash area, we obtained about 4 permits, we put together a group and we rented a Land Cruiser, that carried us in dust storms and dire conditions about 3 days till we got to the mountain. The high altitude combined with the lack of adaptation make this trip relatively difficult, especially when you want to video document everything that happens around. But the effort is worth every minute of it, because on the 3-day kora around the mountain you are surrounded by pilgrims performing their old traditions and yaks caring luggage, the atmosphere being extremely spiritual. From Mt. Kailash we left for Lake Manasarovar, the holly lake mentioned in the old Indian Puranas writings and from there we went to Everest, for a quick taste of climbing that amazing mountain.

"Kailash is a mountain in Western Tibet sacred for four religions...The film traces the path of what is called the kora, a religious circumambulation of the holy mountain....The narration emphasizes the damage the Chinese have done to religious expression during their occupation of Tibet, particularly the destruction of hundreds of monasteries during the Cultural revolution....The terrain covered in this film is both bleak and majestic....This film will be of primary appeal to viewers with an interest in Tibetan religion and spirituality."
